Any new technology must first have a clearly defined purpose and buy-in from key players such as senior staff and the board. Today, at 2pm in Room 145AB at the Washington Convention Center, Robert Murphy of the Optical Society of America, Bob Wolfe Jr., of the Solid Waste Association of North America and myself will provide some examples and strategies on how to build a case for successfully implementing a new technology in your organization.

Imagine you had 100 physical servers, computers that hosted email, served web pages, stored your files, etc . . . lots of machines that are chore to manage, consume lots of electricity, require even more energy to cool and take up space. Virtualization allows you to consolidate the actual number of physical servers, by converting each of these 100 machines into a virtual machine -- hardware such as processor, hard drives, memory, etc., run like a program.

As you may know, I serve on ASAE's Technology Section Council. A big part of what we do is hold ASAE's Annual Association Technology Conference & Expo! I just wanted to quickly share with you more about the conference and highly recommend you attend to get the absolutely latest and greatest information about association technology.

We once again have an impressive line-up for the Association Technology Conference & Expo.   First, we have a pair of dynamic keynote speakers: Jeff Howe, author of Crowdsourcing: Why the Power of the Crowd is Driving the Future of Business and Chris Sacca, Google's former head of Special Initiatives.  In addition, we're bringing back-by popular demand-The Technology Town Hall Meeting that will feature live, interactive audience discussion on today's most pressing technology issues.

There will be 50+ Technology Idea Labs about the most exciting advances in:

  • AMS Solutions
  • Web 2.0/Social Media
  • Web Improvement & Infrastructure
  • Planning & Management
  • Technologies for Small Associations
  • Leadership & Strategy
  • Emerging Trends

I'll be presenting at two of those sessions: Championing New Technologies and Practical Virtualization for Small and Midsize Associations. Plus, there's the opportunity to visit over 100 exhibitors. Take a peek at our exhibitors.

What's New for 2009

Matchmaking and One-on-One Appointments & Product Demos: When individuals register, they simply check off which products and services they need for their association, and we'll create a customized list of exhibitors to save time! Through Matchmaking one-on-one appointments & product demos may be scheduled.

Discount Pricing for Small Staff Associations: Small-staff Association Executives or Consultants (Association staff of five or less, or Consultants with a staff of two or less) are entitled to a discounted registration rate: Member $495; Nonmember $695.

Keep up with Tech, all the time: Get real-time updates about this year's conference at: twitter.com/tech09, plus check out our blog, Acronym, and our wiki, Associapedia.

Register now and please spread the word. I'm really just scratching the surface on what you expect to experience at the Conference.  Speaking of surface, join me in the Expo Hall for an exciting Microsoft Surface demo! Click here to download the conference brochure.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
